About Us

The Montrose Animal Protection Agency (MAPA) promotes the welfare of animals through a
spay and neuter program for Montrose County pets, and spreads the word about animal
care through education and community outreach.

Our Beginning

The Montrose Animal Protection Agency began in 1974 when a small group of concerned citizens and animal lovers sought to improve the conditions of companion animals in Montrose County.  Held together by a shoestring for many years, and serving a wide variety of animal welfare problems, MAPA’s volunteers realigned their focus in the early 1990s to spay/neuter assistance and educational outreach.
Today’s MAPA continues to deepen its efforts in those two areas, supported by a growing group of volunteers and supporters.  In addition to grants, the annual Spay-ghetti Dinner, Trivia Night, Santa Paws Photo Shoot, and the Christmas Letter help fund the spay-neuter vouchers and educational opportunities.

Our Expert Volunteers

Our team at MAPA consists of local volunteers and we couldn’t do it without them!

Our Vision

By financially assisting owners through a spay and neuter program, and engaging in educational outreach, we endeavor to reduce animal homelessness, improve animal welfare, relieve the stress on the rescue/shelter system and create a more compassionate society for the care of all animals.
